Day 94 Saturday 18th July 2009
We were up nice and early today and we were both really excited about today as today was the day that we head to Steve Irwin’s Zoo. Steve Irwin for me has been a legend I remember watching him when I was younger wrestling crocs and tasselling with snakes. When I heard that he died, I wouldn’t say I was devastated, but I was gutted. I remember phoning Jane telling her that he died so since that day I have wanted to go to his zoo and see what he had accomplished in his life.
I had expected to pay a fair amount of cash to get in, but $54 was a little more than we had hoped so out came our student ID’s and we blagged our way in for $40 each, so that was a touch. I don’t mind spending money for the zoo’s as I can only imagine the costs that a zoo has so I was not too worried Jane, however, was not as keen but even, so we were in.
The first thing we saw was the Komodo Dragon which is the worlds biggest lizard, only found in the Komodo National park this is a deadly reptile if he doesn’t kill you when you get attacked the infection from the bit will wipe you out. So we headed around the park and watched the elephants walk to the showground they do actually hold each other’s tails while they walk which is pretty cool!
So today we saw every animal possible Kangaroos Koala’s lots more Kangaroos, and then we saw Crocodiles, I love crocs these are just fascinating creatures I could watch them all day long! Jane held a Koala which was pretty cool we went and saw the shrine made for Steve which was really moving. We watched the displays and shows which are always funny and gets the crowd interacting.
I managed to get a few pennies pressed which is good so I can add them to my collection!
At the end of a long day, we decided that we wanted to find a campsite with a shower, so we carried on heading north and found a campsite that was free and that had a nice shower which is what we needed. So decided that we fancied going out for a beer so by the time that we got showered, and readyit was 9 o’clock and we head over to the pub and he told us that he was shutting. We were gutted we really fancied having a few beers but hey ho what can you do?
That night was another uncomfortable night sleep the van is just not comfy we need to buy a mattress soonish!!
