Today we woke up to yet more rain. But we still wanted to go out and see the Glacier. So we got kitted out in several layers and then drove to the beginning of the glacier walks.
We decided not to do a guided walk out on to the glacier as it was too expensive and because Dan only had jeans, which were not allowed on the ice. We couldn’t afford a helicopter ride either, so we settled for walking out to the glacier face.
It was a long walk along the changing river bed to reach the glacier. It looked like a big slab of ice rising in to the sky. It was strange to see.
We could see one of the rivers coming out of the glacier and the ice cave/tunnel which it had created on its route out of the ice – pretty cool.
We decided not to hang around for too long as it was still raining and by this point, we were very very wet.
We were going to do something else to take up the afternoon, but the weather put us off, and we decided to just get back to the hostel and dry off.
Later on in the evening once the rain had eased up a bit, we headed out for a short walk into the forest and got to see glow worms!!! It was very cool and very pretty. Looking up into the trees it looked like lots of twinkling lights. It was a good experience, and worth getting slightly wet for again!
