Today was a very very hard training session for us it was a complete nightmare but it was brilliant but a nightmare.
We left for the ride at about 14:00 and the sun was shining and the skies were blue it was really looking to be a fantastic day of cycling.
We had planned to do about 40 miles today which is only half what we will be doing a day when we get on our trip. Even 40 miles is
I cant really explain where we went but the best thing to do is to take a look below and see the map. As you can tell we did a lot of zig zagging and I lost count the amount of times we crossed level crossings and every single one we had to stop at and wait.
About 10 miles into the ride and the skies turned black and it started to rain I took the decision to take cover in some trees while the rain passed and we took the opportunity to rest and watch the world go by.
I didn’t have a waterproof on but Jane did and so she took this opportunity to get her mac on and eat an apple. After about 10 or so minutes we decided to press on and the hills were painful, the hills we managed to get up to 30mph last training session we were now doing but in reverse so we knew that we had a long struggle ahead of us.
The rain soon cleared and we were back on our way again. We saw lots of rabbits running about and we had a lot of road kill as well. I have never seen so many dead animals on one bike ride before today and some of them are really slippery.
We were making good progress and the skies were turning blue again and it was nice and we were pushing along nicely. I was getting a bit hungry and when we went passed a local shop Jane ran in and got some chocolate ad some iced buns, which was bliss!!!
Some of the traffic today was a nightmare, people were cutting us up and there were a few close calls but we soldiered on and the last 10 miles were hard work the wind had picked up and we were getting cold and the heavens opened again, it was painful.
The last 3 miles was the worst we ached and ached and we could not wait to get back home. We need some padded shorts urgently so next week will be looking at getting some.
I am very sorry that this post is disjointed but I am exhausted and am struggling to concentrate. This trip is not only going to physically exhausting but mentally its going to be tough. I never thought it was going to be this hard and the more we look at it is doing this trip a bit far fetched? I know we are not going to get to 1500 miles but still non the less its going to be a huge challenge.
