Well today was a bit different for our training as we left the bikes at home and got in the car to go to Newquay cornwall.
We book random dates throughout the year and head down to the UK’s surfing mecca. I am a keen skimboarder and although i am not that great at it i am quite addicted to the thrill of catching waves and so going down to newquay is becoming a very regular event.
We were up early and out of the house by about 6am and got a good start on the traffic. I was driving first and as those of you that know me will know that this is a big step for me. I have been suffering from bad panic and anxiety since having dengue fever and driving has been a big problem for me.
I managed to drive for about 4.5 hours and then let Jane drive the last bit as I was getting very tired. We were in Newquay by about 11 and straight away headed to fistral beach to check out the surf and to wonder around the shops on the way down especially as we are both into all of the surfwear and all of the other cool merchandise that goes with it.
We get to fistral beach and have a beer and i take this photo…
We then headed to our hotel and got changed into our wetsuits and headed to tolcarne beach where we went skimboarding and bodyboarding. The waves were pretty big by this point as high tide was nearly due and it was exhausting. My legs felt like jelly and the weather was on the turn in fact we went from bright hot sunshine to sleet and rain which was damn cold.
After a shower and nap we headed to the fish and chip shop for some food and as i write this i am sat in a pub drinking a beer.
